"Once upon a time
In a far off wintry land
Jack Frost grew lonely
And took the task to hand.
He used his magic powers
And smiled when he was through,
For what he'd made were Snowbabies
A joy for me and you."
Ten years have passed since I first found out about the little white figurines put out my Department 56. The first one I received melted the cold chill of winter as well as my cold my cold heart and made me more curious about the little babies in the snow. I soon realized there were more of them. I had to find out where I could get them and set out to make it my new life's ambition.
Over the next few years my collection grew and seemed to take on a look of a small village of Snowbabies. I bought a cabinet large enough to group them according to their actions. Some are playing in the snow while others are hard at work. Each individual piece tells a certain part of a story and together (to me) they are life in miniature. I often wonder what it would be like to live in their world.
I have often been asked which of the Snowbabies is my favorite. Some I received as gifts and therefore have great sentimental value and others I purchased to mark a special occasion so the answer is very hard. I think that my top ten favorites would have to be:
All of the rest of the figurines are number "eleven"!
- Climb Every Mountain
- I Need A Hug
- Now I Lay Me
- Five Part Harmony
- Somewhere In Dreamland
- Ship Of Dreams
- Finding Fallen Stars
- Best Friends
- Winken, Blinken & Nod
- Just One Little Candle
Snowbabies have a magical charm, they do not seem to mind my brief intrusion into their world.
