Monavale

Monavale is an old homestead that was once owned by one of the founding families of Christchurch, the Deans. Over time, the homestead has passed through the hands of several families. Today, it is owned by the city of Christchurch and its immaculate gardens are kept up by different horticultural groups around the city. This is just another example of the integral role that flowers and gardening play in Christchurch.

The homestead, which now contains a restaurant. Here are some of the gardens around Monavale. The rose gardens, water lilies and hundreds of different flower types remind me of the gardens at the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina. And, suprisingly enough, the Avon River runs by Monavale, as well.
