Speech #1 ICE Breaker

(The first project suggests memorizing the openning and conclusion of your speech, so that is what is preserved.  The lines in between were topics for me to touch on.)

Thank-you M Toastmaster,

Fellow Downtown Talking Heads and guests,

There are two basic kinds of icebreakers, those with sharp prows that ram into the ice to split it apart, and those with relatively smooth bottoms that slide partway up onto the ice so their weight pushes the ice aside. Both types have heavily reinforced steel hulls, as they have to be able to survive being caught in ice. Russia and Canada have the longest arctic coastlines, so it is unsurprising that these two nations have the largest fleets of icebreakers, but the US and the Scandinavian countries are not unrepresented. But you must know all this already, after all, everyone’s first speech is entitled “The Icebreaker.” I have not been a member long enough, but veterans will have heard many such presentations, and be bored by the prospect.

Uncle BRYAN

This concludes my talk on ICEBREAKERS. I may appear to be type with a rounded front that will push apart the ice by it great weight, but hopefully my wit is sufficiently sharp, so that I can break through either way.
