A Star on the Rise: Louis Drucke:
At the age of 22 Louis Drucke finnihsed the season 22-6 with a 1.92 era, over 500 strikeouts,
named to the national League Allstar team, the National League rookie of the year, the national league picture of the year, a World Series ring and named the World series MVP.  A series in which Lousi went 2-0 with an era of .46 and 22 K's.  So how does a picture so young have such a
season, let alone be so succesful in the highest presure situation in sports pitching in the World Series.  "Lou is a hard egg to figure out"  Hughie Lancaster tells us.  Lancaster caught the majority of Drucke's games.  This interviewer certainly found out that statement to be true and it is not one thing that makes Louis Drucke a star ont he rise.
Born Louis Frank Drucke, in Waco Texas, December 3rd.  Louis Drucke has shown athletic ability right from the start.  Louis's father Frank, explains "Lou has been throwing things for as long as I can remember, hopefully now that he is a big name ball player, in the big city he'll pay for all the things he broke throwing around as a kid."  The whole Drucke family listened to all his games this year on the radio.  "Lou paid for us all to come up to Boston to watch the Allstar game and again to watch the World Series games in New York City."  remember Louis' mother Kit.
"During pre-season I watched this kid pitch and I knew he was going to be something special.  I did not think
he would devlope so quickly but Igave hima chance and he more then proved that he desirved it."  Owner Mike Lewis said.  "I don't think anyone would have predicted the relationship between Matty and Lou that developed.  Geezzz you'd swear the two were blood."
Matty and Lou were asigned roomates and the relationship developed from there on out.  Christy Matthewson one of the leagues most dominate pitchers of all time has certainly passed on some knowledge to the young up and comer Drucke.  "The kids got great stuff, mostly I talk to him about how to attack hitters and to learn and remember previous at bats.  Hell I meant that game, I remember late in the season, Lou sittin' next to me and saying told you would not do that again.  I asked him what in Sam Hill he was talking about or to.  He told me Zack Wheat hit a homer off him in early June when he tried to get a change-up by him.  Lou threw three fastballs to strike him out this time.  He is one of the smartest players I've ever seen play the game and he is only 22."
"I've seen lots of kids come through baseball with arms like that.  Ain't nothin' for a kid to throw the ball fast.  But the movement Louis has on his fastball, damn, and that slider....ouch.  he's got this funny nack of learnin' stuff faster then we can teach it to him."  Explains pitching coach Art Reiser.
"Mike has been great this year, he gave me the chance I needed.  Christy is like the older brother I never had."  spoke the reserved young star, Drucke.
Signed for another two seasons and both Lewis and Drucke planning to keep things the way they are for quite sometime, I am sure Giant's fans will be enjoying the pitching wonder of Louis Drucke for quite sometime.
