I said, in my September 20 complaint, "If it is found that [Mike] Adams sent his false representation of me to others, inside or outside the University community, and if these others acted on his false representation, and sent me abusive e-mail messages, then I also shall accuse him of libel," in violation of the University’s Computing Resource Use Policy. I now have evidence that Adams did send his false representation of me to both University and non-University people.

  1. Adams caused his attorney, Charlton L. Allen, to publish a false and libelous article in an internet magazine, Front Page, on October 25 (FrontPageMagazine.com). This article states that Adams "responded to Rosa and forwarded his response to a number of people in his address book, just as Rosa requested in her initial e-mail." I never asked Adams to forward his response. I stated this conditional: "If you support open, unbiased, democratic discussion of all the facts, please forward this e-mail to friends and acquaintances both on and off campus." I asked him to forward my statement, if and only if he supported an "open, unbiased, democratic discussion of all the facts." Adams’ letter to me proves he has no interest in such a discussion. He therefore had no right to forward my e-mail to anyone. He received my statement in his role as a faculty member. When he forwarded my statement, he violated POLICY G, "Joint Statement on Rights and Freedoms of Students," which states: "Information about student views, beliefs and political associations which professors acquire in the course of their work as instructors, advisors, and counselors should be considered confidential. Protection against improper disclosure is a serious professional obligation."
  2. Adams also mocked the fact that, after I received e-mail threats from people in his "address book," my mother contacted his department chair, and asked him to (1) find out what Adams had sent these people and (2) persuade Adams to help us stop these threats. Adams’ attorney quotes him as having said: "But if Dr. Turrisi continues to lead this witch hunt, I’ll have my mother call her department chair." This statement indicates that Adams has no sense of the difference in status between a faculty member and a student.
  3. The University Counsel provided me with a list of the nine e-mail messages sent by Adams (ADAMSM) to UNCW addresses on September 17 and September 18. This list shows that, on September 17, Adams sent a UNCW student, Krysten Scott (SCOTTK), three e-mail messages (at 9:03 a.m., 9:06 a.m., and 9:11 a.m.) shortly before she sent me an abusive, profane and threatening e-mail message (at 9:38 a.m.) Adams sent me his abusive e-mail letter at 9:45 a.m. He then sent Scott three more e-mail messages on this date (at 9:57 a.m., 9:59 a.m., and at 12:33 p.m.) This evidence indicates that Adams forwarded my statement as well as his false representation of me to Scott. She acted on his false representation and sent me an abusive and threatening e-mail communication.

I, therefore, accuse Mike Adams of libel in violation of the University’s Computing Resource Use Policy. I ask the University to investigate my allegation and, if warranted, hold Adams accountable for his conduct under all applicable University policies and procedures.
