Brendan
Campbell is an Irish painter who lives and works in Dalkey, County
Dublin. He trained in Belfast under the well-known Ulster artists
Neil Shawcross and David Crone and completed his studies
in Manchester Art College, England and University College,
Dublin. His work has been exhibited in both Ireland and Britain
in solo and group shows and also in public exhibitions such as the
Royal Hibernian Academy Exhibition in Dublin. His paintings
are in private collections in Ireland, Britain, the United States
and Japan.
Campbell's
work. which celebrates contemporary urban life, frequently reflects
his considerable interest in art history and is influenced by Impressionist,
Orientalist and other pre-modern styles as well as drawing inspiration
from the Scottish Colourists Fergusson, Peploe and Cadell,
and neo-Fauves such as Raoul Dufy and Andre Derain.
He is represented by several Dublin galleries including Dalkey
Arts and Deborah and Denise Donnelly's gallery in Francis
Street, Dublin. He is married to the painter and poet Kate Campbell.
