End Time  Evangelism
After years of doing almost every kind of evangelism that I learned or read about, they were all good, but when I would pray to the Lord and ask why He hadn't poured out the wave of evangelism that I believed He showed me was coming. He said to me, "When you prepare the new wineskin, then I will pour out my power." Well, what is the new wineskin? God reminded me of the trip that He sent me on to Stony Plain, Alberta
One night, as I was praying with an older pastor and we were interceding for Canada, I had a vision. I felt myself being made into an arrow and then being pulled back in a bow; I asked the Lord where were we going and as He let me go into the air I heard Stony Plain, Alberta. I said, "isn?t Stony Plain in Manitoba?" but I heard again Stony Plain, Alberta, also there was a rope still connecting me to Vancouver when I hit down in that town.
As I prayed about this I concluded that God was calling me to go to Stony Plain for a week of evangelism. The Lord made it clear that I was not to plan it all out, but simply go in faith and let Him work out the details. I also had the sense that I should try to get together a team to go with. I contacted a number of different people and there ended up being four others who felt the Lord was leading them and were able to go.
As we went, our primary goal was to learn from the Lord how to do power evangelism. On our first day we tried various methods of sharing Christ but at the end of the day we all agreed that we weren?t learning anything new and we felt the Lord had more for us. We prayed about it and decided that we would simply wait on God until He gave us words of knowledge as to who He wanted us to minister to. We believed that God knew all of the needs and He had called us here to minister, so it wasn?t unreasonable to ask our Lord to give His servants directions. The next morning we were determined to wait on God until each of us had received some direction for ministry, no matter how long it took.
After about two hours, we each felt we had something to go on, so we went out to see what would happen. After a few dead ends, we went to the Courthouse, for one of the team had seen a picture of a man talking to someone in a yellow T-shirt at the courthouse. He thought his name was Peter Solway and he was to tell him that God forgives him and will help him with his alcoholism.
So two team members went into the courthouse, but at first there wasn?t anyone there. As one of the team members went into the washroom, a man came out of the courtroom and the other team member watched him go over and talk to women in a yellow T-shirt. He
went over and asked if his name was Peter, but it wasn?t, so He left it. The team member in the washroom, however, heard the Lord say, that the person they were looking for was in courtroom #1, which, in fact, was the one he had gone back into.
They believed that he was the right person and prayed that God would bring him out again. He did, and they went over and shared how the Lord had led them to him. His name was Clarence and he was a North American Indian. He told them that he had accepted Christ but had failed to walk with Him: They then told him that God had a message for him, "He forgives you and will help you with your alcoholism". Clarence was weeping and deeply moved.
One of the words that the Lord also gave that morning was for me to go to a white house down Umbach Rd. and a picture if a bright red heart. As I prayed, it seemed that God wanted me to go to this house and pray for someone with high blood pressure. It also seemed that it was an older woman. So we went to what looked like a likely house but it was a dead end. So I asked the Lord to give me more details. He gave me #49 Umbach Rd. on the third morning, and so I went to the address. It actually turned out to my surprise, that #49 was a white house. So I went to the door and introduced myself. An elderly man answered the door and I told him that God has told me to come to 49 Umbach Rd. and to pray for someone with high blood pressure, he said that his wife did and invited me in.
His wife, Louise, was just getting off the phone with her doctor and was crying because, although she was feeling so bad, her doctor wouldn?t put her in the hospital. When I came in she was thrilled because she had heard me talking to her husband. As she cleared the tears from her eyes, she asked, "Now let me get this clear, who told you to come and pray for me?" I said, "God did". She just looked at me and said, "You?re an angel, just an angel!" I said I wasn?t really, but she said, " You don?t know what this means to me, I have been so discouraged and upset."
It turns out that Louise had made a commitment to Christ earlier in her life, but hadn?t been going to church recently. I prayed for healing and her walk with God. She wasn't aware of a change right away, but I believe that not only will she be healed, but her walk with God is back on track.
Things we learned from our time in Stony Plain1) It is hard to learn how to be patient and wait on God
2) It is worth waiting on the Lord
3) Although we received specific directions and they led us to the right people, some of the details weren?t quite right. We believed that it was because we were just learning to hear God and we are bound to make some mistakes.
4) Our relationship to God and obedience were key factors in hearing from Him.
5) God seemed to breakthrough just when we were ready to give up; He wanted to bring us to the end of ourselves. How many more Louise?s and Clarence?s are out there who God wants to minister to, but His body isn?t listening and responsive?
God showed us, through an illustration about specially trained horses, that the goal is to be responsive to the slightest nudge from the master, not having to be yelled at.
What If: We took time every morning or evening and spent it waiting on the Lord, asking Him to give us specific directions for ministry around us? He may say, "On the way to work this morning you will see a truck along the side of the road. Here is what you are to tell the person." Sometimes God may give you an address and tell you how you are to minister to a person.
Just think of the significant ministry that God could bring about in our communities if we would simply listen and then go and obey. The church needs to have this simple vision restored.
When we got home, we tried to do this for our weekly witnessing time on and off for about a year. We did have some contacts that actually worked out in an amazing way, but, because we are still just learning to hear, it only happened about 1 out of 10 times. This tends to be very frustrating, (which is why we would do it off and on) because we seemed to be able to get just as good results doing it the old way. When I asked the Lord about this, He told me that we were gas furnaces in the time of oil. Right now we don't work very efficiently, because the gas has to be individually trucked in, but wait until there are gas lines put in every where. Then we would be cooking with gas and all the old oil furnaces will need to be converted over. In other words, we need to prepare the new wineskin, but until He pours out the new wine, it just doesn't work the way it is suppose to.
Another idea the Lord has given us is for apartment blocks that you can't get into. First go to a building the Lord leads you to, write down the names and apartment numbers and go home and pray over these people. Then ask the Lord for prophetic words and words of knowledge for each person and write them into a letter and invite them to come to your home or church. Send the letter and see what the Lord might do.
