The Altimarlach Cross a few miles up the Wick river, marks the site of the last clan battle in Scotland. It was fought between the Sinclairs and the Campbells on the 13th of July 1680.
The name derives from the Gaelic
...'Uilt na Muirleach'...
the Burn (stream) of the Thieves
so called because of the plunder of the bodies of the dead.
