- Talking about committing suicide - Has trouble eating or sleeping - Major changes in behaviour - Becomes withdrawn - Loses interest in work and school/college - Makes a will - Gives away things that are sacred to them - Has already attempted to commit suicide -Takes unnecessary - Has reason to consider it due to a recent severe loss - Has become preoccupied with death and dying - Has lost interest in their personal appearance - Increases how much they use of alcohol and/or drugs. |

How to help someone thinking of suicide |
- Be direct. Don't beat around the bush. Get straight to the point. - Listen, the person obviously has a lot to talk about and to work through. - Be supportive. Make youself available to be contacted when needed. - Don't dare them to go through with it. - Don't act shocked. - Don't allow yourself to be sworn to secrecy, go and seek support, as this is a difficult thing to bear alone. - Offer hope of different alternatives, but don't just lie abour reassurance, other wise they may lose faith in you. - Take action, remove as many means of suicide as possible. - Seek help from professionals who specialise in suicide prevention. |
