Course Description: An introduction to Buddhist Art in a broad cultural context in South East Asia and Far East Asia. The course discusses an overview of Buddhist arts and the eight scenes of the Buddha's life with focus on the cultural exploration of traditional Buddhist arts such as paintings, musical instruments, images, mudras, stupas and temples.
Course Prerequisites: The target audience of this course is students who have at least the high school level in English proficiency.
Course Format: This syllabus covers eight class hours (2 hours/week x 4 weeks). The instructor will give introductory lectures to provide a basic orientation to Buddhist art. Though the course is designed as a lecture class, discussion of the material and dialogue between class members is encouraged. In order to assist students' understanding of topics, audio-visual education will also be employed. |
