Firstly I was impressed to see 24 guys front up keen and ready to play a good start to the season with that kind of showing. Unfortunately it wasn't the result that we wanted to start of the season but allot was learnt from it in many ways and the new players got to finally put what they have learnt in training into a game situation. Outstanding players for the day included Pete in the Ruck, Hippy, although having only trained once, and Miggsy. Our lack of fitness was evident from the first quarter, we started every quarter well but could not carry it on for the full length and let Roskill get back into the game at the end of each period. No doubt as our fitness improves this problem won't be an issue in future. First gamers Anthony and Geoff impressed as did our new recruits from Wellington.

The two major concerns to come out of the first game was our lack of composure in front of goals resulting in many wasted shots that ultimately cost us dearly. This seemed to be widespread as many players struck the same problem. Secondly and more importantly of disappointment to me was the lack of thought and presense of mind by several senior members when the pressure was on and people were tired. In a time when it is of huge importance for senior players to step up and lead by example some of the people to go missing in action were these players, bad option taking and lack of direction on field was a key component in the loss. Something that must be rectified if we are to progress to the post season.

In all it was a good start to the season numbers wise and effort by most and to look at this and know that we have a lot of room for improvement is encouraging.
