Fantastic Monsters ( FanMo ) was |
. |
started by Paul Blaisdell and Bob Burns |
in an effort to produce a more mature monster |
magazine. Published by Blaisdell and edited by Ron Haydock, |
Jim Harmon, Bob Burns and Larry Byrd ( who did the fold-out cover |
painting for no. 7 ). Like Castle of Frankenstein, FanMo was more of a |
. |
professionally printed fanzine and had a much lower print run than Famous Monsters |
and some others. Popular features included "how-to-do-it" articles by movie FX artist Blaisdell |
and the foldout Monster of the Month posters. The covers of issues no. 2 - no. 6 were photos of |
Blaisdell creations from movies like The She Creature and IT Conquered the World. FanMo is |
one of the best of the 1960s monster mags and tough to find in excellent condition. |

Each issue of Fantastic Monsters featured an 11" x 17" color fold-out Moster of the Month poster. The fold-outs in FanMo no. 6 and no. 7 were in the front of the mag, which had a four page spread (on the back of the cover and poster) entitled MonsterScope that featured photos from The Bride of Frankenstein (in no. 6) and King Kong (in no. 7). |
