Like Gore Creatures, Photon was a general fantasy film mag, with the usual mix of articles, interviews, news and reviews. Many of the top fan writers (Ron Borst, Gary Dorst, Paul Mandell and Frank Dello Stritto, among many others) and artists, like Dave Ludwig, Bill Nelson and Richard Corben, contributed to the pages of Photon. Starting out somewhat crude (the publisher being in his early teens, at the time), it rapidly became one of the very best fantasy film fanzines of it's day. The first few issues were printed with Hectograph, then mimeographed till issue #20, after which it was printed photo offset. Earlier issues had several actual photographs affixed to their pages. The later issues had one, tipped in, 8x10 glossy photo. These photos are often missing from issues sold on the collector's market. (Mouse over picture for cover artist.) |
