2005 Presidential Inaugural Parade

The 21st Ohio Volunteer Infantry (Reenactors) received the prestigious honor of marching in the 2005 Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington DC on 20 January 2005.  The unit applied to march in the parade to pay tribute to the original members of the 21st OVI and Vice President Dick Cheney, whose great-grandfather, Captain Samuel F. Cheney, led the Regiment at the Battle of Bentonville in March 1865.

Grave marker for Wilson Vance, Medal of Honor recipient from the 21st OVI.  Vance received the MOH for his actions at the Battle of Stones River on 31 December 1862.
The reenactors conduct a memorial service at the grave of Edward Godfrey, a veteran of the 21st OVI.  He received the Medal of Honor for his actions at Bear Paw Mountain (Montana) on 30 October 1877 with the 7th Cavalry.  Godfrey was buried at Arlington National Cemetery on 5 April 1932.
