We are really starting to gain momentum in our fight. Safeway is really getting pounded by the press for transfering food in the trunks of cars, and not having the shelves stocked. From what we are hearing from our contacts  there is total kaos within the facility. On top of being some 400 routes behind there are reports of a free for all in the grocery lunch room were 12 scabs were involved in a fist fight. Many have quit or have been terminated. Summit is so desperate to get bodies in there that they're even telling applicants that they'll pick them up at home and drive them to the facility. They are also going to great lengths to try and get some of our people to cross or to second guess ourselves by sending us that phoney letter telling us that there last offer was off the table. Who cares?  We knew it was off the table when we voted it down. So let's keep up the pressure Safeway is losing lots of money and their credibility. Alot of customers are showing their support at the cash registers. What we need to do is to hold each other accountable and make sure there is no slacking on our part. If you know anyone who is not contributing to our cause, or is wandering turn them in, or give the hall their phone numbers. Any member who is not participating will be dealt with!

A ralley is scheduled to take place sometime this week at Safeway corporate headquarters. Family and friends are encouraged to join the ralley. Your team captain will give you the details. It is also important for everyone to realize that the media will be present and that this will be a peaceful and lawful demonstration.

Today we had a good ralley at corp. headquarters about 200 teamsters showed up. While we were there Summit had a friendly visit from the CHP for 6 hrs checking driver log books. Summit also sent our officials an offer with many concessions. The offer resembled their first offer back in july were they wanted us to pay for increases if our health and welfare goes up 5% or more. Some of the concessions include working side by side with scabs through the holidays, no reprocussions for those that crossed the picket lines, no amnesty for anyone caught doing wrong during strike, drop all NLRB charges. What the public needs to know is that Summit/Safeway which claim to be "union friendly" is trying to break our union. On Tues. we made an attempt to negotiate with Summit and they basically declined our offer. To ask us to work side by side with the scabs is like spitting in our face. And asking us to pay for our own health/welfare is just plain old corporate greed and i'm sure the public wont support that.

Many people have been emailing asking us why we have not kept this site updated and the reason is, because we are rank and file teamsters out leafleting the stores. So if you need daily updates log on to the summit teamsters site they are now in charge of all updates. But before we go we would like to give one last update. We believe that what we went out on strike for was just and our only option. Safeway has millions at their disposal and Summit is a professional strike breaker. But they'll never be able to break our spirit. We hope that when we go back that Summit/Safeway realize that they can't hide their abuses from the public just because we work out in Tracy far from their nice and clean stores. If their abuses continue we'll take it to the public again. So our struggle has not been in vain we've been able to take on two jagernauts and have managed to inflict heavy damages. We were doing so much damage they had to go to court to get us to unlock the jaws that we had around their necks. Now Safeway is taking out  large ads with 10% discounts giving free turkeys away basically giving their food and profits away. So don't let them fool you we've done serious damage. If they want to continue to lose money then they can continue to make rediculous offers.
