X-files Rant!
Okay-Dude! On Sunday a pivotal point was reached in X-files--Mulder is the father of Scully's baby--and there is nothing on the web about this. Maybe there'll be something later, like next week, but right now, there is nothing! What X-files needs is an organized site with all the fan information, like the Crashdown for Roswell. Someone up to it? But still--someone should be talking about this, so it'll have to be me.
I really liked this episode (I have no idea about the name but it aired February 18, 2001). The music by Mark Snow was great and really added to the atmosphere. I liked how the flashbacks to before Mulder's disappearance were melded into the present time. And I liked Doggett's concern for Scully's well-being.
But let's deal with the fact that Mulder is the father of Scully's baby. First, you find out when Scully is in her doctor's office that she can become pregnant and that she already has someone in mind, just doesn't know how to ask him. Then in another flashback, Mulder is there, saying he doesn't want this to "come between them." But, he says, "My answer is yes." So obviously Mulder was agreeing to donate half the genetic material for Scully's baby. And later, Mulder hugs Scully when the procedure "didn't take" and Scully isn't pregnant. Isn't this big news?! No wonder Scully is fighting so hard to keep her baby: it might be the last part of Mulder she has left.
But let's talk about two things that don't add up. First of all, if Mulder thought that donating sperm to Scully might come between them, they can't be sleeping together like some shippers have been hoping. Otherwise this probably wouldn't have been a big deal for Mulder. Also, in the last flashback where Scully and Mulder embrace when the procedure doesn't work, Mulder is waiting for Scully on her couch. When did he get a key? If he doesn't have a key, did he pick the lock? If he does have a key, why does he have a key? That would imply he and Scully were sleeping together but I don't think they are. It's all very strange.
I'm glad Mulder comes back next week (supposedly). He'd better come back for real and they'd better not be toying with us. And Scully's baby had better be healthy and human or I'm gonna kick some FOX ***. I am a shipper at heart. But I wonder if the bad guys did switch Mrs. Hornblower's or Whatever's baby, and if they did, what baby did they switch it with?
