BAN THE INTERSTATE COMMERCE OF LEGHOLD TRAPS | ||||
H.R. 3442 would ban the interstate commerce and transport of leghold traps, including fur derived from the use of these cruel devices. These traps are inherently cruel and indiscriminately trap anything and everything that steps into the traps’ steel jaws, including companion animals, endangered species and humans. The American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, the National Animal Control Association, and the World Veterinary Organization have all declared leghold traps to be “inhumane.” More than 85 countries have banned these traps, along with 8 U.S. states that have either banned or restricted them. As usual, the U.S. is lagging behind in the animal rights movement and has yet to follow the lead of the more civilized countries in outlawing these barbaric traps.
