First introduce the band. Jeff: I'm Jeff i play bass Ryan: I'm Ryan, I play drums, the other guys couldn't be here tonight. Jeff: but they are Tanner Beers on guitar, Chris Wit also on ye olde git fiddle, and Tyler NdN on vocal chords. How long have you guys been together and how did it start? Ryan: well, i have been writing songs for almost 5 years now, Chris and I have played together for about 4 years, and have written most all of our music. Tyler was supposed to play bass for us, but then we found Jeff.. Jeff: hey, thats me... Ryan: ... yeah, in July of 2004, so he switched to vocals. in mid August we found Tanner and started full practices. Chris couldnt play with us for a while because of school and work schedules. our first show was late October, a battle of the bands at a nearby church. then, in December we went on to record the Skull and Backbones E.P. Who are your musical influnces? Ryan: Not Motorhead... Jeff:definitely the Havoc, and Headnoise. These bands have greatly inspired both our lyrics and our music. Ryan: every now and then you can hear some 50's in there. its a good breed of music. whatever it is. I heard that yall got to play with Headnoise, how did that go? Jeff: ummm.... its Headnoise... do i need to say more? it was amazing. Ryan: yeah, it felt really good to be a young band in the Christian scene playing with probably the most well known band in the Christian scene. they are awesome people, and they have truly blessed our lives. playing with them was an inspiration to us. So what does the name the Violence mean? "From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence and the violent men take it by force." - Mathew 11:12 Jeff: Our name has kind of a dual meaning. Ryan: yeah, this verse tells about our violent faith. we have no fear of fighting for what we believe, our faith my be challenged, but we stand up to that everyday. it basically means we have to take the pain Christ bore for us. Jeff: It also speaks of the kingdom of heaven suffering violence, this is talking about Jesus suffering violence on our part, for our salvation. Out of something so violent came something so wonderful. Ryan: and we do not use physical violence, but spiritual What is going on with the band now? Anything new? *tanner calls and joins interview* Tanner: were doing alot of not practicing. Ryan: we're doing a lot of not anything. and stem cell research. trying to write new material. some new stuff under the curtain. Whats the goal of the band? Ryan: to become a full blown ministry and go on tour with Amy Grant and join a crusade with Franklin Graham. Jeff: haha, true true... Tanner: i want to tour with Billy, none of this Franklin crap... Jeff: we want to reach the punk youth who have not heard the Word. Why stand up for Christ? Ryan: Why not? Jeff: He stood, fell and then rose again for us. Tanner: because He told us to. Last Words? Tanner: Not yet. Ryan: Tell my wife and kids i love 'em. Jeff:Last words? Christians never say goodbye, i'll talk to you again. BACK |
