(DOW JONES) DJN: DJ Singapore Airlines Closes Down Y2K Command Center DJN: DJ Singapore Airlines Closes Down Y2K Command Center SINGAPORE (AP)--National carrier Singapore Airlines Sunday deactivated its Y2K command center, set up to handle any computer glitches during the crossover into the year 2000. "As Singapore Airlines experienced no Y2K-related problems during the rollover, we have deactivated our command center," the airline, one of Asia's biggest, said in a statement. Singapore Air reverted to its normal schedule Saturday, after canceling around 100 flights out of a scheduled 475 between Dec. 30 and Jan. 1. The cancellations were due to the low demand as well as to avoid having jets in the air during the rollover, airline officials said. Y2K concerns stemmed from older computer programs and circuits that do not distinguish between 1900 and 2000, causing worldwide fears of system failures.
