I was amazed at how much money and time was spent on short events...the parties...where everyone put on a false face etc. THe guy who bought all the expensive stuff but could not afford it. The dresses that cost so much so the women could try to outdo everyone.
The Christmas eve party that people essentially mooched on...food etc. They could have had a buffet style thing pot luck, but people would have been insulted if asked to bring things. How odd. They expected so much more than was really required. Good conversation, a few noshy items, some beer or wine, and it would have been just as festive.
