I sure found a new understanding of Jimmy Carter and how he is able to treat people of all colors as equally. I did not know he grew up so closely to the black families around his farm..by close I meant to the people and their children. I would bet that it was extremely unusual at that time for something like that to happen. It shaped him as a man!

I was struck by how candid and embarrassed Mr. Carter was when he discussed how he thinks back on how he grew up and how he sometimes took it for granted that segregationwas part of his life and that things would stay that way. He says a couple times that he is embarrassed by his NON-action in certain situations.

I liked how he told Mr. Clark to tell the registrar that HE SAID it would be alright for him to register to vote.

It was eye-opening, the different things that black people had to put up with. I remember when we first moved to FLorida in 1964 or 5 and there were colored only signs at some stores and restrooms. That had to be when I was 6 or 8 years old...in 1969-70...Hard to believe that it was not that long ago...

Scary too....
