I would like to think that he went to find her too. But you always hear horror stories about kids who find their birth parents only to find out what jerks they are.
I can understand why she left him with the grandfather. Maybe she didn't know he was a drunkard. She certainly didn't stick around long to get to know people. She must have believed that he was the only one logical.
Then again, if we consider the venom in the note...Eddie's Bastard...then perhaps it was another way to get back at Eddie for leaving...dying...
