I agree, I could never be involved with someone else while I was married nor would I be involved with someone who was married. I think the affair is easier for the author than it otherwise would be because they meet on all the exotic vacations. It is almost as if in a way it is not real. Then she returns home to her real life. Only during his visit to SF does he enter into her real life and much of that visit is spent doing things and going places that she does not normally do/go.
