I mean, he is so anal retentive that he has to have every speck of dust up from the floor, can not do anything even remotely fun with his daughter unless he sees some "brain development" in it, and has to out-do every other woman in the neighborhood (cooking wise at least) in order to feel superior. I bet he'd never dream of heating up tomato soup and making grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner. Part of the joy of staying home (and I don't speak from a mommy persepctive like you, Hestia, but as one who gets the step-kids for a week or two in the summer etc) is to be able to get them in the car and go to a matinee movie, or just to the dollar store to browse and give them each a couple bucks to blow of stupid stuff. THe best thing we did was I took the 2 older kids to Disney one time. We just rode the monorail and checked out the hotels. I took some great photos of them at the Grand Floridian, they got to be official co-pilots of the monorail, and I gave them each a roll of quarters to blow in the Comtemporary Hotel's arcade. It cost about 30 bucks total. It was a goof-off day.
Anyway, my point is that kids having fun makes them better people. It does not have to have an educational emphasis.
