Constitution of the Society of Independent Persian Students

ARTICLE I
The purpose of the Society of Independent Persian Students is to accomplish the following:
I. Bring the Persian community at the University of Nevada, Reno together and celebrate Persian festivities.
II. Educate others about the rich Persian culture and alleviate negative stereotypes.

ARTICLE II
The full name of this club is to be the “Society of Independent Persian Students.”
Other official nicknames that can be used are “SIPS” and “Persian Club”.

ARTICLE III
Section 1:  In order to join this club, one must be enrolled in a minimum of 7 credits at UNR and have a cumulative college GPA of 2.5 or High School GPA of 2.0.
Section 2: Each member has an equal vote in meeting and may participate in any event that the club partakes in.
Section 3: The duty of each member is to promote the purposes of this club and to participate in events whenever possible. 
Section 4: Members may resign from the club at their choosing; however, to be readmitted, they must receive a 90% approval rating.
Section 5: Members will terminate their membership from this club upon graduation and will reach alumni status.

ARTICLE IV/V
Section 1: The office of the President shall be elected by memebers on an annual basis.  The President can be removed from office if 60% or more of the members decide to vote him out upon which time a new President will be voted for as opposed to having the Vice President become the new President.  Duties include: Sending emails t o members of new bylaws passed and upcoming events.  If President steps down, graduates, or is unable to fulfill his duties, the Vice President will take over the duties. 
Section 2:  The office of Vice President shall be appointed the President.  If he graduates, or is unable to perform his duties, the President will appoint a new Vice President.  Duties include: Providing a strong leadership and morale role, be an advisor of the members of the club to the President, fill in duties of the President should he be absent.
Section 3: The Secretary/Treasurer is appointed by the President.  A new Secretary/Treasurer will be appointed by the President if the current one is unable to perform his duties.  Duties include: Calling members for scheduled events, taking minutes at meetings to be sent out to members, and handling fiscal obligations.

ARTICLE VI
In order to meet quorum at meetings, 40% of the members must be in attendance.

ARITICLE VII
Parliamentary procedure will be followed by Roberts Rules of Order. The Constitutional Goals of our club are to 1. Bring the Persian community at the University of Nevada, Reno together and celebrate Persian festivities.  2. Educate others about the rich Persian culture and alleviate negative stereotypes that people may have.
