ron weasley startled her with a subtle cough—as subtle as a weasley could manage—and minerva mcgonagall set down her quill to answer the boy's question. it was not until he was on his way out to the quidditch pitch that she realized what she'd been doodling before ron came in: minerva and miranda forever surrounded by a multitude of hearts pierced by quivering arrows.

she'd only met miranda by accident on an excursion into muggle london, but miranda's quick smile had been minerva's undoing. at four o'clock that afternoon, minerva handed dumbledore her resignation and went to pack.
