When JC got home, Justin was still snuggled up in a ball on JC's couch, sound asleep. JC came over to him, kneeling down and kissing his forehead, then eyelids, then nose, then chin, and finally, as a smile spread across Justin's lips, JC kissed him there, too. "Wake up, baby," JC whispered.
"Did you find Lance?" Justin asked, his voice lazy with sleep.
"Mission accomplished."
"What happened?"
"Let's just say Lance isn't going to fuck around with either of us anytime soon."
"But what happened, Josh? What did you say to him?"
Just then the phone rang. "Nothing, baby," JC answered Justin as he headed for the kitchen, "You don't need to worry about Lance anymore." In the kitchen, JC almost tripped over Justin's jeans, which were still in the middle of the floor from the night before. We need to clean up in here before Mom and Dad get home. In the phone, he said, "Hello?"
"JC? This is Mr. Timberlake. Is Justin there?"
"Sure, one moment, sir." JC covered the received and called Justin to the phone.
"Hi, Dad," Justin said. JC watched his boy's face for any signs of trouble. He breathed a sigh of relief when Justin broke into a huge grin. JC grinned along with him as Justin hollered, "Whoo hoo! I'm an eagle!"
When Justin hung up the phone, he leaped into JC's arms. "What's the good word, 'Lake?" JC asked, though he already knew the answer.
"Dad got it all done. I've transferred, effective immediately. I go to Kennedy! We go to school together! And I can even play basketball! Well, sort of, at least. I can practice with you guys, I just can't play any games this season. But that's way better than I thought it was gonna be." Suddenly Justin grew quiet, and JC pulled him close, kissing the curls on the top of Justin's head.
"What is it, J? What's wrong?"
"This is such a dream come true, JC, I'm afraid of waking up. You know all that time we didn't see each other? When you thought Lance was keeping us apart?"
"Yeah," JC answered softly.
"I was dreaming of this, of you, of us. You were all I could think about. And I couldn't say that till now."
JC kissed Justin in response, squeezing him in happiness. "Now is fine, J. Hearing it now is just fine."
"I love you, Josh."
"You, too, Justin."
"So can I have a rematch of that game of one-on-one?" Justin asked.
JC raised his eyebrows. "You think you might beat me this time?"
"Well, last time I was distracted by thoughts of how you would be in bed. But now, since I know the answer to that, I'll kick your sweet ass."
"Dream on, 'Lake, you know I'll kick yours."
"I doubt it, but let's go find out!"
Justin ducked out of the kitchen and into the garage already
humming "We are the Champions." JC shook his head, smiled, and followed
his boyfriend.
