OOPS Pub Crawl |

The Pub Crawl Report by Simon Taylor (I can remember the whole night this time) The 2nd Session OOPS Pub Crawl began with three dedicated indiciduals making the 6:05pm ferry from Circular Quay - Waghorn, Govers and Emilsen, all of which did the Titanic pose at the front of the ferry. The blue collar Blues Point Hotel provided a quiet and relaxed beginning to the night, amongst shabby carpet and memorabilia galore. The Commodore, surprisingly the most packed of the lot was where it kicked off with most arrivals turning up at the Commodore. Mingling was immediate. The Greenwood saw everybody enjoying themsleves, with a predominance of 1st and 2nd years and 4th years making up for the dismal effort shown by the 3rd years and 5th years. Thesis schmeis I say! Nobody was fined for drinking from the wrong hand and probably rightly so. VC Bar (at 9pm) saw the night start to kick on. Despite somebody's spew shutting down the entire mens toilets (not a planners), despite one person getting kicked out for using the womens toilets (go figure) and despite Wagger's rather exhibitionist dancing, the VC raved on, even bringing out some dancing. Greenwood was the opposite. Quite poor but I'll stop there. Thankfully (especially with hindsight), we left that hole and proceeded to the Rag and Famish. Along the way, Stefan managed to fulfill rule six by donating a junior burger to the waiting traffic at Miller St. "What's this?" "It's one of the rules for our pub crawl. "Thanks mate!" The Rag and Famish was the highlight of the night - a small, packed blue collar pub with a pub band, lots of drinking, photos galore (see photo gallery) and everybody in a joyous mood. Blueberries finished off the night on the dance floor. My thanks to Waggers, a very impressive (and admired by all) whistle blower and thanks to the first and second years for being good socialites, making up for the rest of our course that don't know a good time. If you have siomething to add to my useless account, please do so. If you have an idea for the Session 1, 2002 pub crawl, let me know. TOP NIGHT! |

The Rules are: 1. You must do the Titanic pose at the front of the 6:13pm ferry to McMahons Point. 2. At the Blues Point Hotel, one must continuously make degrading comments at how bad the Blues Point Tower looks, how bad an architect Harry Seidler is and how absurd it is that it actually got past North Sydney Council. 3. The Holden Commodore is a great Australian icon. David Boon is a great Australian icon. David Boon drinks a lot. At the Commodore Hotel, the person that drinks the most will receive a personally signed Boonie memorial plaque. I’m serious. 4. To stand out in the ‘hip’ crowd that frequents the Greenwood, you must drink from the left hand. Failure to do so will result in punishment by kissing the nearest BTP student. 5. A Friday night in North Sydney means that there will be a lot of office workers having Friday evening drinks. At the Victoria Cross, one must strike up a conversation with a person both wearing a suit and who is of the opposite sex. 6. One must donate (or at least try to donate) a Macca’s Juniorburger to the traffic waiting at the RED light at the corner of the Pacific Hwy and Miller St. Note red light. 7. The Northpoint Tavern is a very private schoolish place to hang out. Act like you are a North Shore private school student trying to fit in. This involves sophisticated language, “cool” fashion, intention to pick up and a severe attitude towards anybody you do not know. 8. Of all the North Sydney pubs, the Rag and Famish is the most blue collar. At this pub, you must end every sentence with ‘mate’ and complete every order at the bar with ‘thanks cobber’. 9. Everyone must be on the dance floor at Blueberries. And finally… Remember, if asked, we are Sydney University architect students on a fieldtrip |
