This information is provided to give BDA members an insight into how the guild works as a unit, and how the divisions operate separately as well. All members are required to read this. Although the brotherhood is not essentially an uniformed army or body, we still act with some form of discipline. Some divisions such as the Fury guard act in a more disciplined manner than the others. Ultimately each division works together in tandem to achieve their objective. And each division has a significant role to follow whilst in the field. The hierarchy works as such: Cardinals- diplomats and order leaders. Relays wishes/commands to… Inquisitor general (leader of inquisitor division) and BDA field commander. Gives orders to…. ‘Shadowblade’ commander ‘Fury’ commander Who commands his/her division in the field. The ‘Cardinals’. Role in guild: Order leaders and diplomats. There are currently two cardinals who share the responsibility of leading the brotherhood. The cardinals serve predominantly as diplomats. Their wish is the brotherhood’s command and the ‘Inquisitor- general’ will make sure this is carried through. Although the cardinals issue orders that the guild will follow, it is not their immediate responsibility to command the divisions in battle. This is instead left to the commanders of each respective division. The commanders of each division also carry out of character responsibilities such as organising certain events such as meetings and training etc. They also will decide what uniform their division will bear. The cardinal’s wishes are the brotherhood’s commands and the ‘General inquisitor’ (head of inquisitor division) holds the responsibility of making sure the cardinals orders are carried through. The inquisitors: Led by the ‘Inquisitor-general.’ The inquisitors are the senior branch of the brotherhood and answer only to the cardinals; the inquisitors bear command over the fury and Shadowblades. If the inquisitors need the assistance of the other divisions they can call upon them to aid them. The general inquisitor whose role is to serve as a field commander over the brotherhood leads this division. Orders from the cardinal are relayed to the general inquisitor, who in turn relays his own set of orders to the other division commanders so that they may order their division to assist in the brotherhood achieving its objective. The role of the inquisitor: The inquisitors are an elite division responsible for apprehending and interrogating heretics or more commonly those who have faith in the virtues. The apprehension and interrogation of such individuals is the common aim of the brotherhood. Ultimately the inquisitors are the will of the brotherhood purging the populace of the evil virtues and other threats to society. Although the inquisitors will be used as a unified group when needed, they are intended to be more fragmented than the other divisions. Inquisitors are expected to work in small groups preferably, and to also be self-reliant in their goal. Inquisitors will act as spies and gatherers of information. An inquisitor should be expected to apprehend an individual where possible using whatever tactics he has at his disposal. Inquisitors will use stealth tactics, and use other means to succeed. This will include bribery, or anything more imaginative that comes to mind. Remember the role of the inquisitor is an intelligent one. Only revert to confrontational tactics when you are forced to. An example of a recommended approach if a diversion was needed the inquisitor would find a suitable role-player, and then bribe him to create the diversion. Another example; when I wanted to apprehend someone I drugged his or her drink and rendered them unconscious. This allowed me to apprehend them easily. All of this of course relies on how co-operative the other player is in being apprehended. Always Use party speak to arrange something, if they are too busy or do not want to be interrogated then just find another suitable person. No big loss. DO NOT try power emotes either to force apprehend someone as that will not go down well. The shadowblades and fury may be called on to assist in the apprehension of certain individuals or to carry out other tasks. Interrogating the victim: Once the individual has been apprehended the inquisitors will take him to a secret location where torture facilities are available. Use whatever means of transport to get them to the location, gating is useful although warriors will have to use foot or boat as means of transport. Haven has a number of good places where torture can be applied although the BDA tower is recommended (as it possesses a chair and forge which can be used as an interrogation seat and forge for heating torture implements.) The inquisitor(s) will then attempt to force the unlucky victim to denounce the virtues. The victim will be shown some of the tools in an attempt to scare them, and then will be ordered to ‘confess their sins’. No one is going to give up easily so expect to employ realistic torture methods. It is recommended that inquisitor members do some research on torture methods to know what they are talking about when they do it in game. When I first started this I did some stupid things which I later learnt were incredibly unrealistic. You do not want your role-play to be ridiculed. Of course if you remember seeing something realistic on a T.V documentary or a film then that can be used as good inspiration as well. If they refuse to denounce the virtues then execute the victim, as is the will of the cardinals and the brotherhood! This can be argued as slightly over the top, but we are hardly going to give them a slap on the wrist and let them go. If we are not warring them and are unable to kill them, perhaps create an idea for a slow death. Alternatively cripple them and release them, promising you will collect him for continued interrogation another day. ‘The Fury’: - led by the ‘Fury guard commander’ The personal bodyguard/retinue of the cardinals, and the largest division within the brotherhood. Their priority is to ensure the protection of the cardinals. Whilst the cardinals are present, ‘The Fury’ will remain close to the cardinals and protect them from any likely threat such as assassinations etc. This of course is susceptible to change depending on the orders of the ‘Inquisitor general’. On the battlefield the fury serve as warriors who will enforce the will of the brotherhood and serve as its primary assault/ defence force. To aid them in the apprehension of heretics, if the inquisitors are faced with too greater opposition, they may call on the fury. ‘Shadowblade assassins’: - led by the ‘Shadowblade commander’ Perhaps the most individualised division; the Shadowblades are an elite division of the brotherhood. In the field assassins are used for a support unit for the brotherhood in battle. They are also an advance unit whose stealth allows them to be used as spies to gather information and scout ahead of the main contingent in preparation of the enemy. The primary role of the assassins is self-explanatory; assassins will be used by the cardinals and sometimes the inquisitor general to murder high ranking officials/ officers of the enemy. This serves to weaken the enemy command or simply to eradicate an enemy threat. |
