Guild Volunteer Work
COMPLETED Projects:

"Bring warmth, comfort, and a reminder of home to U.S. Soldiers stationed in Afghanistan" - we'll be knitting, sewing, and collecting winter gear and donations for US Soldiers stationed high up in the Hindu Kush Mountains.  They're not normally supplied with winter clothing and gear (read: hats, mittens/ gloves, socks, scarves....), and on average it gets to be 30 degrees BELOW zero every night!  We'll also be accepting letters for the soldiers to send over with our care packages.  (Check: www.anysoldier.com for more information)

"Bring comfort to battered women" - To make one full bed sized afghan with knit and crocheted squares donated by students and Guild members; which was donated to
Womenspace, the local women and children's shelter, in hopes of bringing comfort and encouragement to local women and children who need it most.

"Encourage growth for preemie babies" - To make 30 preemie baby hats, during the Spring 2005 term, to donate to the Eugene branch of
the March of Dimes - premature babies are born so small that most baby's clothing does not fit them.  Therefore, it is generally necessary to handmake garments for them.  We will host several workshops on knitting preemie hats.

There are other local, regional, and national programs open to those unable to attend meetings:

Caps for Kids is a national project to knit caps for underpriviledged children.  Caps are made locally and distibruted through a local group.  In Eugene, our local contact is the knit shop Soft Horizons Fiber on 13th and Mill.  If you would like to learn more visit their website or go to Soft Horizons.  There are also free knitting patterns on the website.

If you would like more information on knitting for charity, please visit:
www.knitlit.com/charity.htm which has links to many national and international charity groups who knit for several causes.

In 2004 we started an epic volunteer/ charity works program.  After two years, we are still working to bring comfort to others through hand knit and crocheted items.  Our continuing programs are focused on bringing comfort to premature babies and patients suffering hair loss due to chemotherapy.  If you would like to make a donation of goods, services, time or money please contact us.
