Aidana

Aidana, eleven, lives with her parents. They live in Chilik, a town two hours from Almaty, and she goes to a local school there. Like most families in Chilik Aidana’s parents are unemployed. She has had this vision impairment since birth and it has deteriorated over time.

When I met Aidana, she has been having severe headaches and had difficulties reading what is written on the blackboard in school. Often she was not able to complete her homework because of poor vision and headaches. She is a bright girl and it would have been a pity if a correctable eye defect prevented her from receiving an education.

UOR brought Aidana and her mother to Almaty and referred her to an Eye Specialist. We paid for all consultation and treatment. We also helped her get the glasses she needed. The changes were visible within two weeks. The headaches ceased. She could see clearly in class and was able to complete her homework in time. Her grades has improved tremendously. She is a much happier girl, and so is her mother and father.
