A Brief History

 

    The Feeding Program for pensioners was the inauguration of Under One Roof when it started its work in 2003. We began with six pensioners from the 8th Micro-region and gradually increased to sixty two years later. Those who were invited to our feeding program received five thousand tenge or less as pension, lived alone, and are not supported by anyone. We had very good support and approval from the mayor’s office of the Ayessov Region.

 

    In May of 2005 we terminated the program because the government of Kazakstan increased the pension of all pensioners by a significant amount and so there was no longer a need to feed those who did not have enough. We did not want to loose the relationships that we had built up over those years, so we decided to start a new program—the Elderly Activity Center.
