Do you have a house? We are currently unhoused, although we are searching for a central house where at least a few sisters can live and we can have meetings and gatherings. How many members do you have? Currently, we have 40 members. Why would I want to pay to have friends? The dues we require all members and pledges to pay go toward our activities and functions. We do not collect the money for profit. Our dues are very low compared to other sororities because we are unhoused and unaffiliated with a national sorority. Sigma is more than just a club. We are friends and sisters above all else. We're there for each other in our individual times of need, we listen and care for each other, and we know how to have a good time together. Quite a few sisters would agree that Sigma is their life and they love it. What makes Sigma a Jewish organization? Aside from our Jewish origins, our by-laws include Jewish requirements, like three Jewish activities a term. Are all your members Jewish and do I have to be Jewish to join? No, not all of our members are Jewish and no, you do not have to be Jewish to join. We do not exclude potential new members based on religion. We do ask, however, that all our members, both Jewish and non-Jewish, attend all required religious events Will I be able to keep up my grades after joining Sigma? Our grade point average for Spring 2006 was 3.44, well above the all-sorority and university averages. To say the least, we have a strong commitment to academic excellence. We offer study sessions in the Library twice a week and make exceptions for sisters when events or meetings conflict with class schedules. What is the time commitment involved in Sigma membership? As with most cocurricular activities, membership in Sigma does require time commitment. We have chapter meetings every week. In addition, we hold various other events throughout the week, including study sessions twice a week in the Library to help sisters academically. How do I join Sigma? We hold recruitment at the beginning of the Fall and Spring terms. If you have questions about joining Sigma, or if you have other questions that you'd like answered about Sigma, contact the webmaster at uosigma@yahoo.com. If I want to mail something to Sigma, where should I send it? Our postal address is PO Box 3435, Eugene, OR 97403. |
