"THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES" (TVM) Project IS A SUCCESS!
TVM was presented by the UP Sigma Alpha Nu tri-chapter and TRUST quality condoms in two versions. The english version was shown last November 27 at the Music Museum. The line started building up around 6:30p.m. and a good crowd turned out to see Tami Monsod, Lynn Sherman and Missy Maramara
deliver Eve Ensler's run-away hit play.
The Filipino version last November 29 at the DL Umali Hall in UPLB was a received by a jampacked audience.
People roared at the blunt delivery of Harlene Bautista-Sarmenta, Missy Maramara and Arlene Borja, as they
transformed TVM in the vernacular. As Director Rito Asilo had put it: "this has got to be best rural show we've ever had."
Aside from attaining all the objectives of this endeavour- prop for the sorority, consolidation activity for alumni & residents, a take-off point for the alumni association, enlightenment for the UP community and to help jumpstart more projects,
the U.P. Sigma Alpha Nu Sorority further promotes its Goal of Uplift of Women by donating 10% of our proceeds and a supply of ATHENA, the milk for women to the Women’s Crisis Center (WCC), an organization that caters to women survivors of rape, battering, incest, sexual harassment, prostitution and trafficking.
A Presscon for Women
November 24 was a day of enlightenment for many of the media guests from ABS-CBN, GMA7, Philippine Collegian, Philippine Star and Inquirer.
At Dulcinea T.Morato, the Sunday morning venue became an arena for an emotional call to end violence against women most specially violence in intimate relationships.
WCC's Sally Ujano, gave surprising statistics and stories of abuse that goes unchecked and passed as normal in our society.
Our very own sis, Deputy Director of Coalition Against Trafficking of Women in Asia-Pacific, Jean Enriquez also shared information on
the prevalence of forced pinay prostitution abroad via internet mail-order brides.
Jean also delivered a heartfelt statement that condemns the precedents of Ma. Teresa Carlson'stragic suicide.
The statement was the catalyst for other women's groups to unite and convince congress to finally pass laws to prevent
Abuse of Women in Intimate Relationships (AWIR), which had been stalled by the past 2 congress.

The presscon was featured in Alas 5 y medya, The Weekend News and footages are used in segments on battered women.
Through The Filipino Channelof ABS-CBN, the sorority was able to reach people in the U.S., Middle East and Australia.
