No one can expect to know the truth from Gods view without leaving all preconceived ideas and personal prefrences behind. This reality stands true in this subject.
Here is a short testamony for openers. As a teenager, when I was walking with Jesus, part of the reason I backslid for ten horible years was, I didnt understand several important things of God, and I found myself not being able to see myself living my whole life without being able to enjoy a few drinks. After my backsliding was healed by God in 1982, I took a very strong stance against any alcohol consumption; And that was good for me because I had become a lush, one who could not just drink a couple. Over the years of walking dedicated to follow Jesus, I eventually had to face Gods truth according to his Word, about the subject of alcohol and a christian.
Here are some basics to lay the foundation on this subject:
If you have a problem drinking, dont do it.
If you dont have confidence in faith that it's ok for you to have a drink, dont do it; Whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
FACTS: All through the old testament wine is called a blessing
In the new testament, we are instructed that God gave us the Spirit of a sound mind, that means his self control is in us. Either that is true or the bible lies.
Beings Gods self control is in me; and you if you follow Jesus; Then it is false teaching to assume such a one must not be trusted, that one must go over board and drink beyond moderation.
We are told in the new testament to be moderate in all things, and, to let our moderation be known.
If I am with someone who has a problem drinking and I am aware of it, I should not have a drink if it could make a weak person stumble.
It is written: Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself in the thing which he alloweth; and; To the pure all things are pure; and not to judge another in meat and drink.
I know of plenty of verses that support the abstenence of toxins and their reasons, but I need to take the whole word of God at counsel.
Drunkenness is obvious sin; moderation is no where near drunk. Your motives need to be kept in check. Your body is a natural guage if you practice serious moderation in the fear of God, then, living that way, if you drink one more than you should, you know it and are honest with yourself about it, and stay away from that level of consuming. Any sin hinders your joy in the Lord and your fellowship with Father. Dont play games with your relationship with God.
Proverbs 20:1 says "Wine is a mocker" In the hebrew that word "mocker" means that it is a cheap imitation of something it does not know.
What is alcohol imitating?
Eph 5:18 says "Be ye not drunk with wine wherein is excess but be filled with the Spirit" Alcohol is imitating Gods infilling of his Holy Spirit in your life and body, if you drink in excess; And that word "excess" in the greek means "sin"
It's saying, dont get drunk, that's sin. It's not telling you how much is too much. If you think you might be drinking too much, and you drink some most everyday, practice only having one or two for quite some time. You body's resistance to alcohol will get in tune, and soon, in a few weeks you can be satisfied with just a couple, then much more than that feels like too much. That's how you can let your body be a gage; but not just by how you feel if you generally drink quite a few. If your body is used to drinking more than you should, your natural gauges have been disrupted by the force of the chemical abuse of alcohol. You will need to practice self control for at least a couple weeks to change your body chemistry. If you are an alcoholic, you just need to quit altogether and not play games with your body and realtionship with God.
The world says, once an alcoholic always an alcoholic; That's like saying that when Jesus said nothing is imposible to them that believe, he was lieing. But I went 18 years sober and enjoying it after having abused alcohol for over 10 years when backsliden, but the joy of the Lord is my strength now. If you follow the Spirit and the bible together, and fellowship, you should find the truth of Gods will for you. No one else can really be the judge of that, all we can do is offer information; You need to be led of God yourown self.
