אביבה גפן
התאלמנה ב- 6 ליוני 1967. בעלה סגן חיים גפן ז"ל היה לוחם בחטיבת הצנחנים
שפעלה בעורף מתחם אום קטף שבסיני.
לאורך חייה
נאלצה להתמודד עם קשיי היום יום לבד, גידלה בן לתפארת שלמרות היותו בן שכול התגייס
לחטיבת הצנחנים, בה עבר את כל מסלול שירותו הסדיר. כעת הוא לוחם בחטיבת הצנחנים
במילואים וחבר מושב בדרום.
בזמן נפילתו
של חיים היתה אביבה בהריון ונולדה לה בת מקסימה שלא זכתה להכיר את אביה .
קשייה של
אביבה היו קשיים כמו של כולנו, אחרי שהחליטה לעזוב את קיבוצה מצובה, השתלבה במערכת
החינוך כמורה.
אך אם לא די
בכל הקשיים ה"רגילים", חלתה אביבה פעמיים במחלת הסרטן וניצחה את המחלה.
כעת כאשר
איננה כבר צעירה, שוב עומדת אביבה מול בעיה רפואית קשה: כליותיה הפסיקו לתפקד והיא
זקוקה להשתלה. הפתרון המעשי הינו השתלה בחו"ל, כיוון שסיכוייה בארץ קטנים
והתור כאן ארוך.
כפי
שצה"ל לא מפקיר את פצועיו אסור לנו להפקיר את אביבה!

An IDF widow in
serious health problems.
We ask you to help a friend.
Aviva Gefen lost her husband on June 6th, 1967. First lieutenant Haim Gefen was a reserve paratroop officer, who fought with the brigade in the battle of Um Katef in Sinai.
During her life she has to struggle with the daily problems on her own, she grew a splendid son, who served as a paratrooper like his father, though he had to volunteer to do so as IDF orphan and get Aviva’s permission for that. He is now a paratrooper in reserves, member of a moshav in southern Israel and a proud father.
When Haim fell, Aviva was pregnant and after his death a wonderful daughter was born, who never knew her father.
After she left her Kibbutz Matsuva, she became a teacher. The problems Aviva faces are the “usual” ones we Israelis face in our daily life. But if this was not enough, she was hit twice by cancer and defeated the decease.
Now Aviva, who is not young anymore, is facing a new health problem, both her kidneys ceased functioning and she needs an urgent transplantation. The practical solution is having the operation outside Israel, as here the waiting list is long and in her situation time is crucial.
As the IDF teaches us not to neglect our wounded comrades, we should not turn our backs on Aviva.
