JI Suspect from Malaysia Sentenced to Three Years in Jail
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:South Jakarta District Court sentenced terrorist suspect
from Malaysia, Syamsul Bahri, 37, to three years in prison on Thursday (15/07).
This ruling was two years less than that demanded by the public prosecutor.
Ariansyah B. Dali, the head of the Court's judges, said the defendant had not only
facilitated acts of terrorism but also withheld information on terrorist acts.
In the structure of the Jemaah Islamiyah organization, Bahri is the deputy chairman of
the preaching division, as well as being a member of JI's technical team.
He had been assigned to study and make a series of electronic simulations that could
trigger bomb explosions.
By committing such acts, the judges considered Bahri of having violated article 15
juncto article 6 number 1 of 2002 on the eradication of terrorism crimes.
Bahri, through his lawyer, has accepted this ruling.
