Marriott Bomber Convicted to 10 Years in Prison
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:South Jakarta District Court judges sentenced one of the
bombers in the JW Marriott Hotel bombing case, Mohamad Ihsan aka Idris aka Joni
Hendrawan aka Gembrot aka Ajo, to ten years in prison on Tuesday (24/08).
The conviction was the same as that demanded by public prosecutor Cecep Sunarto.
"The defendant is proven guilty of having committed acts of terrorism," said the head
of the judges, Asnawati.
The judges said that based on the charges made by public prosecutor, the defendant
was proven guilty of having violated article 15 juncto article 9 of Government
Regulation in lieu of law No.1/2002 juncto article 1 Law No.15/2003.
However, the judges overruled the second charge made by the public prosecutor, that
connected the defendant with the Bali bombing, because this charge had used state
decree No.16/2003, which had earlier been overruled by the Constitution Court.
