Hi, my name is Jim. I am 47 years old and I am a non-verbal quadriplegic with cerebral palsy. I was born with this disability.
With the help of my augmentative communication device called Vanguard, manufactured by the Prentke Romich Company, I can communicate my feelings to others. I can use it to store messages. I can store addresses and phone numbers, make my shopping list, play songs, tell jokes, and even make recordings. I can use it to store my speeches.
As for my hobbies, I love the Cleveland Browns, hockey games, bowling, movies, fishing, camping and just being around people. I am busy every day thinking of new ideas, working on my website, answering e-mails from people who are curious about Vanguard. It is amazing how many people have loved ones with disabilities or they themselves have disabilities. It is good to have someone to relate to and I do appreciate all of the encouragement that I get from my friends.
I would like to talk to everyone about the struggles that people with disabilities go through. I will be going to schools and colleges to share my story with others. (It is not for profit) I am an Ambassador for Vanguard for the state of Ohio.
