The President of the Texas Tower Association, Henry Pape, received this note.
He would like to share it with the group for those who knew him and in memory of Jim Sargent.

Karen hopes to be able to join us for part of the Reunion in Las Vegas next week.

My name is Karen Sargent-Morrow.  Jim Sargent is my father.  My mother, Janice, told me about the Texas Tower website and I logged on to view the obituary for my father at www.texastower.org .Thank you so very much for the acknowledgement.  My father talked often about his time on the tower.  I remember being very little, and all through my teenage years, my father spoke about his time out in the middle of the ocean.  None of us could comprehend it then, and it still is daunting to me now.

August 15th was the 1-year anniversary of Dad's death.  I can't really believe it's been a whole year.

My father had alot of friends throughout his life.  He valued his friendships very much.  You could tell by listening to him talk and the expressions on his face just how much his friends affected his life and the way he lived.  After his service in the military, he held a variety of jobs (fixing televisions was one of
them) and eventually went on to operate a few gas stations in New Jersey-- Sunoco and Getty.  He was a mechanic who was always willing to work on a car for free or wait for payment until a customer had the money.  My father never did become a millionaire because it was always more important to him to help people than to take their money.  Although his jobs were never high-paying, his five children never went without anything we asked for.  More than anything, my mother and father brought us up in a safe, loving and warm home.  My childhood was filled with so much love and happy memories-- all because of my parents and their love for each other.

I am very lucky and so very proud that Jim Sargent is my father.  When Dad died, he was surrounded by his wife Jan, his children and grandchildren, his brother Ed and sister Joan, and best friend Paul.  I don't know how it happened that day, but everyone showed up and we were all blessed to be there with him.  What a wonderful memory that is for me, to have been able to be there with him.  The loss is greatest for my mother, however.  I know she misses him terribly.
