It is that time of year again -- when the Texas Tower Association reminds everyone to pay "dues."
The TTA is incorporated*¹ as a tax exempt organization operating on a calendar year running from October to October. Annual dues are $10 for a member, $15 for a married couple.
Your dues cannot be certified as deductible to you unless the group were to obtain the ruling from the IRS that this is the case. We feel we are qualified to receive that letter, but have not taken that one step to obtain it.
Most of the Association work has been done by voluntary contributions from individuals -- mailing of newsletters to those without email, for example. The operation of various websites has been funded by the site owners.*²
For the dues each member gets a vote at the meetings and the gratitude of the Association as a whole. The dues contribute to an operating budget which is used for necessary incorporation paperwork and annual updating, payments for bonding insurance for those who handle money, and any mailing required.
What is not required for those items has been used solely for educational purposs, charitable donations, flowers for members who are ill, and relief for those in need.
