untitled (pinhole) (2005) to make a pinhole camera take a box (seriously any size will work) and paint the inside black, including the inside of the lid. cut a square hole out of the lid. take a piece of tin foil and tape it behind the hole (the tape should be on the inside of the box). take the smallest pin you can find and make the smallest hole possible. just barely puncturing through the foil. make a cover for this. you can use a piece of cardboard larger than the hole. tape it over the entire hole that the tinfoil covers. take your box into the dark room. place a piece of unexposed photo paper and put it in your box. taping it to the back is a good idea. replace the lid. tape the lid on. make sure there are no light leaks! take your box to wherever you want to take a picture. depending on the lighting and the size of your hole development time will vary. anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute or so. to expose your paper just pull back the cover you placed over the hole. once you're finished recover the hole. this will stop the exposure. go back into the dark room and develop. this is your negative. once it's dry and ready to go take the image and place it face down on a piece of unexposed paper. place them under the enlarger and expose. this exposure time will vary also. then develop. voila! you've made your very first pinhole shot. go ahead give it a name. no really name your artwork. this is all really hit and miss so don't get discouraged. i was lucky with this one. |
