Chapter three.

The first visit.

I flew back to Holland at the end of October 2002 and in anticipation of Jennifer visiting me at the end of November I went to the consulate in Amsterdam on Thursday October 24, 2002 to get the latest info. I managed to be the first one in that morning, but they made me wait while they served everybody else. I guess consuls go to the same sort of schools doctors go to. Lesson one: let the suckers wait.

But after a while the curtain at window three lifted and I was called. After I told my story I had to wait some more (the curtain closed, lesson two: wait more), and he came back with the following forms.
By the way, it was not the nasty woman I have read about on other websites but a friendly guy in his mid-thirties.

I-130(Rev. 10/13/98)N, Petition for Alien Relative.
G-325A (Rev. 09/11/00)Y, Biographic Information, two forms, one for me and one for Jennifer.

Besides those forms I got an information sheet Infomation For Aliens explaining what to do with the forms and what other documents we will need when filing the I-130. They are: passport photos, one of each person, passports and our marriage license.

He told that, contrary to the forms, the American spouse does not need to be a Dutch resident and she has to come to the consulate only once to file the I-130. And I can freely travel to the USA during the procedure, as long as I can convince the guy at the POE ( faq ) that I will go back to Holland again.

On Sunday, November 24, Jennifer will arrive at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and on Monday morning at 8.30 a.m. we will be at the gates of the Amsterdam consulate to file our I-130. I expect everyone who reads this and has a bit of a heart to be there and cheer us on. We need all the support we can get!
