Scott attended Stony Brook beginning in the fall of 1968 and graduated in 1972 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Social Sciences. When Scott began at Stony Brook, they did not have a hockey team. So in his freshman year, Scott and a group of other students began playing pick-up hockey on a regular basis, and gave thought to forming a team. This project progressed, spearheaded by Scott, culminating in the formation of the Stony Brook Hockey team, which played its inaugural season in 1969-70. Aside from being the founder and first president of the team, Scott was made an assistant captain and also served on the Board of Governers for the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Hockey League. After graduating from Stony Brook, Scott went to Syracuse University's College of Law where he earned his Juris Doctorate cum laude in 1975. Today, Scott is a practicing attorney and partner in the law firm of Lamb & Barnosky, LLP. In addition, he is the President of the Suffolk County Bar Association and previously served as Chair of the SCBA's Appellate Practice, Judicial Screening, Bylaws Revision and Legislative Review Committees. He is the recipient of the SCBA's President's and Directors' Awards. He served as Managing Director of the Suffolk County Bar Pro Bono Foundation and as a Director of Nassau/Suffolk Law Services Committee, Inc. He is the former Vice President of the Suffolk Academy of Law and has frequently lectured on appellate practice. He is a former Chair of the New York State Bar Association Committee on Courts of Appellate Jurisdiction, a member of the NYSBA House of Delegates and a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation. He is married to Joleen Hoyt-Karson ('72) and together they reside in Stony Brook. They have two children and one grandchild. |
