Harassment

Is someone in the USCA bothering, intimidating or harassing you? Check out the USCA Harassment Policy and Grievance Procedure.  Harassment complaints are generally processed by Jolynn Jones (near bottom of link page), USCA Member Resources Supervisor.  Remember, the discrete handling of calls and confidentialty apply only to USCA employees and officials involved in your complaint.  It is in your best interests to also turn to friends and community resources for support.

Warning!  The USCA may delay or fail to fairly apply the harassment grievance procedure when complaints target employees or members networked into its political structure, or when complaints are made by members without political connections or a history of complaints.  Utilizing your other resources may help to end the problem sooner, as well as protect you from potential USCA retaliation.

Harassment is also illegal and/or a violation of the University of California, Berkeley, Code of Student Conduct.  It is advisable to file complaints and document any incidents with the police department and the university in addition to the USCA.

(510) 981-5900 Berkeley Police Department. Be sure to request officer contact and get a case number.  Empower yourself - also ask what sections of the California Penal Code may be applicable to your situation (request this information for noise and other non-harassment complaints, as well).

(510) 643-9069 University of California, Berkeley, Office of Student Life/Conduct.  (Wayne Creager, Case Administrator)

Documentation is essential.  Begin keeping a written log of your case after the first incident, and be sure to submit your complaints formally, in writing.  Include all  relevant information, such as specifics (who, what, when and where), copies of your complaint(s), copies of the response(s), police report numbers, and progress or resolution.

You may also find support and post messages in the USCA Defense Center Public Forum or contact the USCA Defense Center Support Staff directly for discrete, confidential advice.
