The Ranger was the first purpose-built American aircraft carrier, and one of only two with vertical/horizontal funnels, with the Langley being the other. Many design features on the Ranger were used on the Yorktown class that followed. Ranger served in the Atlantic for all of World War II, being the only American carrier not to serve in the Pacific theater of war. |
