Long story short, the Declaration of Independence basically explains why colonies do not want their rulers and chose to separate nations in the world. It talks about how men are created equal and there are certain "unalienable rights that governments should never violate. By unalienable, it means not to be separated. These rights include your daily/social life and liberty. If the governments breaks the rule and eradicate those rights, the people are allowed to overthrow the government with no hesitation. After that, the people are able to pick and decide their own government that is designed to protect those rights.
The example used in the Declaration of Independence is the King of Great Britain, King George the III. He has broken the colonists' right and caused so many problems and arguments with them. He used the parliament to change many of the rules and punished them harshly. There were legislation that raised taxes on the colonists which made them have to quarter British soldiers, meaning that they were allowed to go into their homes without the owners' permission. Because of the Boston Tea Party, King George shut down the harbor so that they cannot trade with other countries. The King and Parliament restricted the life of the colonists. For many years, the Colonists have been trying to stop the British but it did not work. Until finally, they declared the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. They called their new independence nation the United States of America. They wanted no more control from Britain. The new government has the right to start a war, trade, peace, alliance etc. They are able to do things that once they could not do.
