| We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies? | |||||
| After America won its independency from Great Britain, many major problems started occurring within the Thirteen Colonies. ?The most serious problem was that the country under the Confederation lacked national unity. Each state functioned independently by pursuing its own interests rather than those of the nation as a whole. In addition, the Confederation didn?t recognize the differences in population among the states. Each state, regardless of its population, had only one vote in Congress.? Even though this country was called the United States, the states were not very united even though they stated in the Declaration of Independence that the United States does not need Great Britain because they were strong by themselves, as a whole nation. This passage from the Declaration of Independence says, ?We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America?" which basically means that they whole country, as one, is making this decision of being independent from Great Britain. As you can see, when Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration, he wrote the word "We" and not I. We represents a whole, a unity amongst the nations which were was not seen after they won their independence. | |||||

| This passage, similar to many others in the Declaration of Independence, talks about how limited the colonial rights were. The ?He? in this passage, just like all the ones before, is referring to the King of Great Britain. This passage is basically saying that the King invaded the rights of all the colonial men and women. After the US gained its Independence, the colonists made the Bill of Rights, which were the first 10 amendments, or rights, that all citizens had. It does not matter what race you are, what your social level is, or even if you?re an untouchable, everyone had the same rights which could not be taken away by anyone. The US?s way of giving all citizens their rights completely differs from the King of Great Britain?s way. In this passage one can easily tell that the King decided who had rights and what rights they had while in America everyone had a fix number of rights and stayed the same for everyone. This was the outcome of writing this passage in the Declaration of Independence. | |||||
| The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. | |||||
| The SAG Assembly states this quote as, "one of the most knowledgeable quotes which gives a true and brief meaning of what the King did." This passage above is basically saying that the "King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations?" By reading this quote, one can easily tell that all the power of Great Britain rested in the hands of the King. When the colonists, in particular Thomas Jefferson, wrote this passage they did not blame anyone else for the injuries but only the King. This is because the power in Great Britain was not divided amongst different people but was all in the hands of the King. The colonists did not agree with this idea and ended up sharing the power that the independent United States of America had amongst the nation as a whole and each individual state. The decision of sharing the power amongst the nation as whole with each individual state was an outcome of the Declaration of Independence. | |||||
