Compromises to Avoid War
Before the Civil War many politicians attempted to prevent the war from ever happening.  Unfortunately, they probably simply prolonged the inevitable.  In any event, several compromises were created by Congress to deal with the expansion of slavery into new territories-such as the Louisiana Territory and the Mexican Cession.  Go to the Thinkquest Library and read about these compromises.  Read exerpts of speeches by Senators John C.
