Remember
those patches and pins we wore 30+ years ago? Some of us still have
one of the originals. Others, like me, wish we'd taken better care
of ours along the way. But, 30+ years is a long time, and some things
just seem to get lost.
I remember my pin.
I wore it proudly everyday on the crown of my hat. Besides, it hid
that mis-placed eagle, globe, & anchor. <g> But, then
I was stateside and it found it's way to a drawer. 30+ years, 3 wives,
and over a dozen different residences, (including one that suffered a rather
large fire) and I can no longer tell you what happened to it. I just
know, that I don't know, where it is. :(

Richard Prest has stepped forward and done something to help us.
Through his good efforts, faithful reproductions of the original patches
and pins will be available again very soon. The only difference being,
except that these will be brand new, is that these reproductions are of
substantially better quality than our little third country nationals friends
were able to produce.
The patches are
2 5/8" tall. Large enough to look damn good on a jacket, but still
small enough to wear on your beret.
The pins are 1"
tall, double posted, with a cloisonné finish.
Both should be available
for delivery in about 4 weeks.
Richard has also
made the offer to assist the Fort Benning War Dog Memorial Naval Services
Pedestal Fund at the same time. His offer? All profits from
the sale of the pins and patches, will be donated to the Fund. Not
10%, not even 25%, but the full 100% of the profits after covering the
costs of the patches and pins themselves, envelopes, and postage.
Here's
the deal.
Each
patch, or each pin, is available for $10.50 a piece,
(including postage).
Or,
2
patches,
2
pins, or
a
set of 1 of each,
for
$21.00 even.
Now let's see,
I need a set for myself.... a pin for my wife.... one of either for my
daughter.... and of course, patches for each of the grandchildren....
That way there's no fear of them getting lost, or the little tyke being
stuck by a pin. As long as I'm getting together an order here, I
might as well get something for the deliquent I use to mow the lawn......
and a pin for both my assistant, and my secretary at the office.
Geeze, these things add up fast. Better hurry and get my order in
before they're all gone.
